Compensation: Excellent Pay and Benefits based on experience

Employment Type: full-time

For 35 years, Midwest Testing has been providing clients with innovative solutions to their geotechnical, environmental, and materials engineering challenges. Our client group is primarily owners, developers, and design-build contractors who value our creativity and ability to think “outside the box.” If you are looking for a fast-paced environment, challenging projects, and making a difference for our clients, Midwest Testing is for you.

Subsurface investigation: the job of the geotechnical engineer essentially starts with a collection of soil samples from the project's intended site, using bores and test pits. Amongst other factors, the analysis will determine the ground's stress bearing capability and stability.

Field test: after research into soil quality and stress-bearing factors, geotechnical engineers must determine whether issues like erosion, settlement and slope will pose a safety risk to the proposed project.

Computer analysis: as a geotechnical engineer, you will be required to analyse the results of subsurface investigations and field tests with dedicated software. Your ability to understand data and model future conditions will be crucial to the development of the construction project. After analysis, geotechnical engineers may be required to assist in the development of earthworks and foundations suitable to the conditions of the site.

Client meetings: a regular duty of the geotechnical engineer is to meet with clients for evaluations of project progress. Budget and time constraints will be important factors in any discussion and geotechnical engineers will be expected to know and provide a variety of important information.

We are looking for a self-starting, hard-working individual to join our geotechnical engineering group. We will consider candidates ranging from limited work experience to engineers with an accomplished project management history.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Computer skills – using various software applications to run lab tests and summarize field tests is important for geotechnical engineers
  • Project management – the ability to budget, create project schedules, meet deadlines, and produce estimates is important for geotechnical engineers
  • Analytical thinking – analyzing soil, water, and rock samples is a key aspect of being a geotechnical engineer
  • Communication skills – explaining test findings and generating reports call for strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Work independently – these engineers spend a great deal of time in the field and should be able to make observations and collect data with little to no supervision
  • Problem-solving skills – once they have identified any risks, it is up to geotechnical engineers to make suggestions and recommendations to resolve any issues and drive projects toward successful completion

Preferred:

  • Master of Science with a geotechnical emphasis and PE registration

We offer competitive salaries and comprehensive benefits, including medical/dental/vision/disability, 401(k), bonus plan, paid time off, education assistance, and professional development. Relocation assistance may be provided as part of an offer package. Midwest Testing is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $26.00 - $32.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
